Volt Carbon Technologies

Volt Carbon Technologies is a valued tenant of ours located at 590 Hanlon Creek Blvd., in Guelph. Volt is a Canadian company that specializes in graphite purification, battery development, and mining exploration. Volt acquired Solid UltraBattery, a subsidiary focused on producing low-cost, high-energy, and safe solid-state batteries. Solid UltraBattery was founded by Dr. Zhongwei Chen, a Canada Research Chair and Professor at the University of Waterloo, who has many patents in the field of Advanced Materials and Clean Energy. With this acquisition, Volt has strengthened its position in developing advanced solid-state battery technology.
One of Solid UltraBattery’s latest projects is to develop lithium-ion batteries for small drones and unmanned aerial vehicles, for which they have been selected as a top finalist by the DAIR Green Fund. This fund is supported by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). The project aims to develop a lithium-ion battery that meets the rigorous demands of aerospace applications starting with a small 5Ah cell. The project is expected to be completed by March 31, 2024.
